Job Description

Community Engagement Associate

Temple University Hillel

Role Overview

Temple University Hillel is seeking a passionate and dynamic Community Engagement Associate to build relationships with students and create meaningful Jewish experiences on campus. With approximately 1,500 Jewish students at Temple (about 4.55% of the student body), we are looking for someone excited to foster engagement, support student leaders, and develop innovative programming to connect students to Jewish life.

The ideal candidate will be a relationship-builder, an excellent communicator, and an enthusiastic presence on campus. They will work to empower students, help shape Jewish student life, and create a welcoming and pluralistic community. This role will center wellness as a foundational pillar of engagement—not just as a program, but as an integral part of Jewish life. Through Jewish wisdom and values, the Community Engagement Associate will guide students in cultivating well-being, resilience, and meaningful connections.

What You’ll Do

  • Build at least 200 relationships with Jewish students, with a focus on those who are uninvolved or seeking a deeper connection to Jewish life.
  • Develop student leadership opportunities, mentoring engagement interns, fellows, and student leaders.
  • Create and implement Jewish learning experiences, social events, and wellness-centered programs that empower students to lead healthier, more balanced lives.
  • Provide students with referrals to our on-site therapist and other wellness resources, ensuring they have access to the support they need.
  • Serve as a role model of healthy living, encouraging young adults to develop self-care practices, emotional resilience, and strong support networks.
  • Partner with student organizations, including Greek Life, pre-professional groups, and niche-interest communities, to foster Jewish engagement in diverse spaces.
  • Use Jewish traditions, rituals, and teachings to guide students in finding spiritual and emotional well-being in their daily lives.
  • Work closely with Temple Hillel staff, student leaders, and campus partners to support and grow Temple’s Jewish community.
  • Use social media and digital engagement strategies to connect with students and promote Hillel initiatives.
  • Support major campus-wide events such as Shabbat, holiday programming, and Jewish learning opportunities.

A Typical Day May Include

  • Grabbing coffee with a student interested in launching a Jewish mindfulness or wellness initiative.
  • Having lunch with a Greek Life leader to discuss integrating Jewish values and mental well-being into their chapter.
  • Planning a Jewish learning session on self-care through a Mussar (ethical teachings) lens with student leaders.
  • Coaching Engagement Fellows on how to foster deeper, more meaningful conversations with their peers.
  • Checking in with students who have utilized Hillel’s wellness resources, offering ongoing support and connection.
  • Wrapping up the day by staffing a community-wide Shabbat dinner, creating a welcoming space for rest and reflection.

What You’ll Bring to the Job

  • A Bachelor’s degree and 0-2 years of experience.
  • A passion for Jewish life and pluralism, with the ability to help students explore their Jewish identity.
  • Strong networking and relationship-building skills, with an ability to connect with diverse student groups.
  • A commitment to student wellness, with a deep understanding of the challenges young adults face and how Judaism offers tools for resilience.
  • Creativity and enthusiasm for designing innovative Jewish and wellness-centered programs.
  • Experience using social media and digital engagement tools.
  • Excellent organizational skills, the ability to work independently, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excitement to be part of a collaborative, mission-driven team.

What You’ll Receive

  • Competitive salary in the range of $44,000-$46,000.
  • Company-assisted benefits.
  • Professional development and mentorship opportunities within the Hillel movement.
  • The chance to make a lasting impact on Jewish life at Temple University.
