The Career Success Coach will lead one of the Center for Career Development's (CCD) industry-focused Career Communities (a community of practice for students, faculty, staff, alumni, employers, and other industry experts around areas of student career interest that cut across disciplinary boundaries). Responsibilities will include coaching and advising students on their career development, enhancing engagement within the designated Career Community, and developing and implementing tailored workshops, resources, programs and events. The Career Success Coach will work cross-functionally and collaboratively with the other CCD teams (including employer engagement, career and life design, operations, data, and marketing) to build strong relationships with relevant faculty, campus partners, professional associations, employers, and stakeholders connected to the selected industry area. The Career Success Coach will assume responsibility for industry-specific knowledge development and information sharing, and coordinate with the CCD team to support engagement strategies, marketing and communication, and assessment and outcome data collection for their Career Community.
Essential Functions:
- Serve as primary lead and campus representative for a designated Career Community.
- Develop and implement outreach efforts, student programs, events, workshops, presentations, and services that connect students, faculty, staff, alumni, and employers around common areas of interest.
- Provide career coaching for students through individual appointments, drop-ins, and programs in areas of career exploration, skill building and self-assessment, strategies for pursuit of employment and/or graduate study, and overall career decision-making.
- Administer and interpret career-related assessments, including those to identify values, interests, personality style, skills, and strengths.
- Build and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with relevant schools, colleges, and university departments connected to their Career Community, with attention to marginalized communities and Boston University's diverse student population.
- Meet regularly with key faculty, staff, and campus partners connected to industry areas.
- Represent the CCD at special events and to designated departments, organizations, and groups.
- Coordinate with data team to collect relevant data on their Career Community's initiatives to assess outcomes, measure success, and inform future initiatives.
- Research labor market trends and industry information to provide professional development to students and colleagues.
- Develop and update career materials and resources in response to new developments in the field and current market trends.
- Collaborate with employer engagement team by providing input on outreach strategy, support targeted relationship building as needed, and involving employers in career education activities or initiatives aligned with student interests.
- Engage in professional development opportunities, including participation in office-sponsored, local, regional, and/or national associations, remaining current on best practices and trends in the field, and/or contributing to the profession through presenting, publishing, or serving on committees.
Required Skills - Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, social work, or similar field required, Master's degree preferred, with approximately 3-5 years of experience in career services, student affairs, education administration, or similar experience.
- Experience advising and coaching students in an educational setting, providing feedback, guidance, and connections to campus resources.
- Experience designing and delivering educational programs, workshops and the like.
- Experience managing projects, fostering teamwork, and organizing events and programs.
- Cultural competency, commitment to inclusion, equity and engagement of all students, including students from marginalized communities.
- Highly collaborative, able to conduct outreach and develop relationships with diverse constituents including students, faculty, staff, alumni and employers.
- Exceptional communication, listening and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collect, analyze and report on client and program data to inform decision making.
- Ability and eagerness to learn and utilize computer applications, systems, AI, and social media.
- Demonstrated experience or interest in the industry aligned with the designated Career Community.
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends as needed to support CCD activities.
- This is a hybrid position, eligible for two days of remote work per week throughout the year.\
