Full-time, Part-time, and Contingent positions available

UPAC is seeking engaging, reliable, caring and energetic individuals who want an opportunity to work with children with autism. The Behavior Technician is a vital role in our mission to provide services in a fun and safe environment. Anyone studying in teaching/special education, medicine of any kind, psychology, social work, OT, speech or art/music therapy will acquire experience at the Center that is rewarding and valuable to their ongoing coursework and career.

Qualifications:

· High school diploma or equivalent.

· Must be at least 18 years of age.

· Strong interpersonal skills, that include professional interactions with parents, clients and coworkers.

· Ability to problem solve and think creatively about teaching skills.

· Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions.

· Ability to interact with children while having fun.

Expectations and Responsibilities:

1. Working one-on-one with a child diagnosed with autism.

2. Utilization of Applied Behavior Analysis Therapy (ABA) strategies as instructed by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).

3. Present frequent learning opportunities that include, but are not limited to, language and communication, social skills, school readiness, behavior management, play and leisure skills.

4. Work on daily activates with the child including playing, feeding, toileting, crafting, outdoor play, tooth brushing, and cleaning.

5. Collect accurate data accordingly and report to Board Certified Behavior Analyst.

6. Working in a team environment with open communication.

7. Participating in meetings for both the client and staff.

8. Complete all required clinical documentation in an accurate and timely manner.

9. Cleaning and maintaining the client rooms and the classroom.

10. Reliable transportation and attendance.

11. Other duties and tasks as assigned.

Working Conditions:

  • Providing physical care, support, guidance, and supervision of daily activities consistent with the treatment plan and ABA programming.
  • Need to be physically and mentally flexible as things are constantly changing in this workplace.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds, sit and stand for long periods, run for short durations, and move between these actions readily.
  • Maintain a safe therapeutic environment for the client and their family.
  • Assisting with physical management of clients. At times staff are required to lift a child and support clients ages 0-21 who have challenging and sometimes severe problem behavior.
  • Engaging in physical activities that may include sitting and standing for long periods of time, getting up and down off the floor, running, and other physical activities related to play with children of all ages.
  • Assisting with daily living activities that may include changing soiled clothing and diapers, and assisting clients with dressing, showering, brushing teeth, etc.
  • All staff will follow the ethical guidelines outlined by the BACB uphold the UPAC organizational values, policies and procedures. This includes maintaining confidentiality of client information, both written and verbal, running treatment to integrity, and treating all people with dignity and respect.
  • All staff must also follow established policies and procedures to meet minimum life safety standards of JCAHO/OSHA and the Department of Human Services SOM Licensing.
